Pokemon Yellow (Nintendo Famicom Bootleg) Gameplay Re: Pokemon Yellow NES Translation Project « Reply #18 on: December 12, 2012, 11:57:48 pm » Played a bit more using the latest patch and have come across some more things to bring to your attention. Pokemon Diamond Sun and Moon is a remake of Pokemon Diamond created by two hacker ROMs called Grillo & Lurge. The game is perfectly simulated Pokemon. Party Pokemon of Gym Leaders and Elite Four have been increased to 6. Rival will eventually have Pokemon +1 than normally does. The IVs from all Trainers and their Pokemon have been increased. Some Pokemon, Level and Movepool from Trainers (e.g. Youngster, Bugcatcher, etc) has been improved as well. Some Pokemon's Base Stats have been improved. Filename: Pokemon Stadium.7z. This rom is not available for download. It is protected by the ESA.

GOALS: Have all 151 Pokémon obtainable in-game with well thought-out placements, enable Pikachu to learn SURF, change all direct references to real world places and animals to Pokémon-cannon alternatives, change two VERY minor places on the map for quality of life reasons, and to retain as much vanilla Yellow as possible: difficulty, dialogue, etc…

SPOILER FREE DESCRIPTION:

WILD POKEMON: All wild Pokémon missing from Yellow were added into appropriate routes from Red and/or Blue. For any Pokémon that needed new places, plenty of consideration has been given to location and rarity using the original anime as a reference. No Pokémon have a 1% spawn rate - Some are pretty rare (4%/5%), but nothing insane.

TRADES: In-game trades have been redone, complete with new nicknames. The nicknames of the new trades were thought about very carefully so that they were very live-with-able. Attempts were made to use names of Pokémon that have appeared in the Pokémon Adventures manga or TV show, or have a nice ties which the original translator might have made.

MAP: One VERY minor change to eliminate one instance where players could soft-lock themselves, and a few VERY minor changes in one city to make movement easier.

TEXT: VERY minor changes to text eliminate real world locations and animals. In these instances, the project does its best to select appropriate Pokémon world counterparts which tie the games even closer together. Some general animal names have been left alone, otherwise it would have been a huge rewriting of Pokémon lore - Pokedex entries saying Ekans is a “snake” for instance, or the word “bird” - clearly, these should stay put, but “Salmon” was replaced in NPC dialogue, for example. In one instance, players will find an NPC who used to talk about being in a real world location, now speaks of being in JOHTO - and this character now actually makes a Gold & Silver bit of dialogue make even more sense. Other than future game references like this, the project attempts to make the changes so minor that even seasoned players may not even notice the changes. The slight edits aim to tie Yellow into the Pokémon world more, and to the real world less.

SHOPS: VERY minor changes to one shop’s inventory

Pokemon On NES!? - Pokemon Yellow Showcase

THANKS: The author really hopes that players try to do the play-through WITHOUT reading the “SPOILER DESCRIPTION” at the bottom of the Read Me file. All Pokémon will be found if players simply play through the game like normal, and talk to the NPC’s. None of them have new dialogue or anything saying where to find somebody, but battling them will enable players to find them via pokedex, and talking to others will reveal new trades. Checking the shops will also clue players in on what’s changed. Consider searching for “Pokémon Blue - 151″! It received the same treatment, but still different enough from Yellow 151.

Update 2.0: Changes were made to fix glitches which appeared in previous patches. Old save files will work with this patch, however this patch must be made to a fresh copy of Pokémon: Yellow Version, and the patched ROM should be named the exact same name as the old save file (extensions should not be changed).
