Specialized Stumpjumper Serial Numbers

Serial
  • The Specialized Stumpjumper is a mountain bike produced by Specialized Bicycle Components. When it was first produced in 1981, the Stumpjumper was the first mass-production mountain bike. The Stumpjumper is still in production, although its design has changed significantly since it was first sold.
  • The specialized “ride” app lets you register your bike there by serial number. Maybe you can ask the seller for the number and check there. The app identifies the correct bike instantly.
  • Since this isn't a retro model, why don't you contact Specialized directly with a serial number and complete parts setup? They'll have the answer. If you want an answer from us, we're also missing the same critical info. Feb 12 '19 at 19:20.

In later models the size of the frame was on one side and a serial number on the other. This was all together. This frame is 47cm. I believe the earlier Konno bikes only had the frame size, the bikes that followed these were made by Miyata & have a M at the beginning of the serial #.
Bottom bracket shell
'1' probably means 1981, and '50' is the serial number? Edit: '50' is the frame size, the '1' I don't know. Apparently the frame is a 1982 model, not a 1981.

Nov 26, 2015 1982 Specialized Stumpjumper The Stumpjumper was generally considered the first 'production' mountain bike. We are trying to get a list of bikes on the Specialized history page to compare specs and serial numbers so we can determine the chronology of the models. You will need the serial number to register. For bikes, the serial number is located on a sticker on the underside of your toptube and/or downtube as well as on the underside of your bike, underneath the bottom bracket. Specialized serial numbers typically start with the prefix “WSBC,” “WUD,” “STT,” or “STE.”.

What Is A Specialized Stumpjumper

The Specialized Stumpjumper was a production bike that was made in Japan with Tange Prestige tubing and lugs. During the 1986 model year, it was only surpassed by the Stumpjumper Team, which had a distinctive pink paint job and more of a Shimano component mix. At the time, this bike was considered high-end for the serious enthusiast, yet the stock tires were a measly 1.5 inches in diameter with a very small tread. The chainstays were long at 18 inches, the riding position was very upright, and the fork had a generous rake. One model year later the Stumpjumper geometry would change dramatically and become much racier by today's standards. This particular bike is in mint original condition, right down to the tag under the saddle, MKS Grafight pedals, and Specialized Tri-Cross tires.
